Entertainment Industy Law

All musicians at some part in their life have sampled a song from legends like (Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye etc.), or it could be something simple as sampling a snippet of a Television show; either way every song or track that has been created has some type of inspiration to it.

With that said, just recently R&B musician Robin Thicke was strongly accused of plagiarizing the great late Marvin Gaye’s song “ Got to Give it Up”, to create his song “Blurred Lines”. In his e defense, Robin Thicke truly believed that the song he created with Pharrell and T.I. was an original, until the relatives of Marvin Gaye decided to come forward and make it clear that the very song that they

claimed was only an inspiration ended up being the very root/foundation of “Blurred Lines”.

I took the time to listen carefully to both of the songs to see if there were any similarities, and I must honestly say that these songs are very close in tempo, and in the way the song was sung. The only difference between the two songs is the fact the song is being sang in a completely different key.
