Intellectual Property

What is Intellectual Property?

Intellectual property is divided into two categories: Industrial property, which includes inventions, trademarks, industrial designs, and geographic indications of source;and Copyright, which includes literary and artistic works such as novels, poems and plays, films, musical works, artistic works such as drawings, paintings, photographs and sculptures and architectural designs.

I had to do some additional research to make sure that I truly understood what IP was all about. There are a total of 4 bodies of law that fall under the umbrella of IP. It is called IP Law (other wise known as Intellectual Property Law). They are as follows:

  1. Patent Law
  2. Copy Right Law
  3. Trademark Law
  4. Trade Secret Law

All of these laws serve their own purposes in the any industry. After I went through all of the laws, I tried to vision which one of these laws if not all would pertain to my company (TwinSounds). The Copy Right Law has become one of the most common protection laws in the music industry. This Law was created by the government particularly to protect all writings whether it was novel, or just a book of poems. Decades later, the Copy Right law has evolved to now protecting music, lyrics to songs, or the way a song was produced/and or created etc. I made it personal for my company, and realized that every song that has been produced, or written y myself or any other member in my business, it would need to be protected before it can be made viral for the rest of the world to know. Patent Law comes with 2 sides to it, the are considered the Utility patents. That involves any brand new inventions worthy of receiving a patent. The other patent is the Design patent; this means the non-functional part to an invention.

Intellectual Property Law Certification Program

In this Podcast it explained in detail what this program is all about. It is was created to help scientists, contractors, and business executives gain a general idea of what it takes to be a certified intellectual property law attorney. Some of the objectives that would be taught would be:
  • To provide an overview of the nuts-bolts of the property law
  • Understanding the different transactions of intellectual property, and resolution of property disputes
  • To enable participants to become conversant in the language of intellectual property law
  • And to provide the skills necessary to interact with professionals, IP attorneys, patent attorneys, venture capitalists.

  2. Informative post about intellectual property. In simple words, we can say intellectual property means your creation, your mind and your unique ideas. You create your intellectual property. There are some rules and rights are made from intellectual property, these are basically made for protecting your IP. You can use these laws and rights if anyone copy your IP. In the case if infringe, it would be better to take help from legal person as they are experienced and expert. See here for more information:http://www.sor-solicitors.ie/intellectual-property.asp
