Mitchell Solarek: Mary Mary's Manager

Ever since a little boy growing up music has played a major part in my life. Now that I am focusing on my studies, I find myself more exposed to the everyday currents events of the music industry. Recently I have been more interested in management; finding new artists, preparing them for any event that is available, surrounding my business with the most influential individuals in the music business.

Lately I have been watching a Television show called Mary Mary; basically this show focuses on how they do their day to day business. What I was most amazed at is how their manager Mitchell Solarek, handles everything from their different wardrobes, to their bookings for concerts, even negotiations regarding money, and trips that require a great deal of traveling. I think that the episode that stood out to me the most is the conflict that continued to feaster between him and Mary Mary's younger sister; who is also considered their stylist. This particular episode, I thought zoomed in on how Mitchell dealt with the nonchalant behavior of younger sister (Goo).

Goo also known as Thomanina Atkins was expected to have her sisters wardrobe put together for their upcoming event; she made it clear that she was able to make the concert that was planned. Thomasina promised her sisters that their apparel would be together for this event, and they would not have to worry about anything. Although Mitchell is the manager of the group, he states in the show that he tries not to get between personal family business.

It is about two hours before show time, and the ladies realize that their outfits have not made it to their destination; which means that there wasn't any back up plan. You would think that in such a crucial time that the manager would crumble, or freak out; instead he took the issues by the horn, and extended his managerial skills to another level.
He escorted both of the ladies to a close by upscale department store, and basically played his role as a stylist. Bare in mind that Tina is about 6-7 months pregnant, which means she was a challenge to find things to wear. The way Mitchell manages his artist is an example of how I would like to manage my artists. He is a professional business man, but also keeps a close relationship with his clients.

Erick and Tina Campbell aka Mary Mary,  are a platinum selling, grammy-winning artist who are at the top of their game. Some of their accomplishments involve ranking number 7 on the billboard 200 and number 2 on the publications r&b/hiphop chart. Mitchell’s accomplishments with these artists should be a drive force for all you christian artist managers pursuing this career. His success with Mary Mary has planted his feet in a solid place for future business.
