Tips for getting ready for Performance (Beyonce)

Have you ever sung outside when it’s freezing?

Beyoncé Knowles did just that, but had a backup plan for the occasion. Beyoncé was prerecorded at President Barack Obama’s inauguration ceremony last week when she performed “Star Spangled Banner”. Aretha Franklin the queen of soul heard the news and found it very funny that Beyoncé sung prerecorded. Aretha stated “I thought it was funny because the weather down there was about 46 or 44 degrees, and for most singers that is just not good singing weather. She also stated that regardless of how she performed, her fellow diva did a beautiful job.

Most singers will not perform well under weather condition of that nature, and should take extra care before attempting performs. Chris & Carole Beatty states with little preparation the cold weather doesn’t need to be a problem. Living in temperature ranging from 112 degrees above to 55 degrees below zero he states when it comes to singing, temperature does matter. Chris & Carole Beatty has a Vocal Coach Blog and encourages everyone to read through the blog for answers and suggestions to common singing & performance questions.

Franklin thinks Beyoncé voice was affected by having to wait around in the cold before her performance. Sitting for more the 45 minutes and temperature in the 20’s, if she could have sung the moment she got there it wouldn’t have affect her voice the way it did. Whether you’re preparing for a live outdoor or indoor performance, for a studio session, or concert, every artist & musician need to get there vocal chords prepared and relax for the best results. Some steps to take while preparing for your vocal performance are:

  • ·      Make sure to warm up your voice
  • ·      Make sure to drink room-temperature water
  • ·      Don’t get too nervous, or else your throat will become tense, and cause your vocal chords to stretch; which will cause discomfort for the vocalist
  • ·      Breathe deeply and stay focused
  • ·      Stay away from all dairy products, and anything that causes mucus.
